Drug Sniffing Dog Last Officer Left In New Mexico Town

Drug Sniffing Dog Only Police Officer without a Criminal Record

New Mexico Drug Sniffing Dog

Nikka, a drug sniffing Belgian Malinos, is now top dog and sole officer of the Vaughn Police Department after chief Chris “Ernest” Armijo resigned Wednesday amid revelations he couldn’t carry a gun because of a felony conviction in neighboring Texas due to failure to pay his child support. The only other human officer on the force, Brian Bernal, was convicted of battery in 2010 and was never certified or trained to be a police officer. Non-certified officers can’t make arrests and can’t carry firearms according to New Mexico State Law.

That left Nikka, a fully trained and sociable K-9 officer purchased this year with money borrowed from the New Mexico Finance Authority. Of course no one on the force is certified or has ever been certified to handle her so whether or not her drug busts would hold up in a court of law comes into question. She has been used out in the field however the drugs she has found mysteriously went missing. It is said they were used by the police officers themselves after Nikka found them and they were in the possession of the police force. Thank goodness the small New Mexico town, sees little crime. Though one has to wonder if that is even true when there isn’t a single fully qualified officer on the force other then the Drug sniffing Dog Nikka. The town might want to reevaluate the selection process or bring in trained officers from local areas so that Nikka has a qualified handler so she can do the job she was trained for.
