Don’t Blame the Dog

You have all heard the excuse my dog ate my homework and while I am sure it has happened a number of time the dog often gets “blamed” for all sorts of crazy things. The dog ate all the cookies in the house while mom and dad were gone. The dog called the pizza guy it wasn’t me. The dog knocked over the vase it wasn’t because I was playing ball in the house again. The dog ate my book I couldn’t read last night – ok that was was true Davinia did tear apart a book of mine once when she was little but it wasn’t for school and I had already read it a few times and it was completely my fault for leaving her alone in bed with my book net to her. And there was a time when Indiana was a puppy that literally every sock in the house could be found under the bed so there were none to wear. Maybe you forgot to wipe your feet before you walked into the house and blame the mud everywhere on the dog. All of these normal blame it on the dog are not really going to hurt anyone, except maybe the child who doesn’t turn in his homework and gets an F on the assignment.



There have been a few Blame it on the Dog this week that really makes you wonder. In Pennsylvania a man said his dog set the fire that destroyed his entire apartment. Turns out the fire could not have started in the way the man claimed he says the dog knocked over a fan and the fan caught fire and he is now in jail for arson.



In another report a police force that is under investigation has claimed that evidence in a drug bust was taken home by an officer and somehow his dog got to the marijuana and ate it. I hope for the sake of the dog that this is not true because Marijuana can and will effect the dog’s nervous system and motor function the higher the amount consumed and could have made the dog need an emergency trip to the veterinarian.
