Snare Found in Off Leash Dog Park

Shubie park

The Nova Scotia Lost Dog Network posted a warning on social media networks Monday to warn pet owners after learning that a border collie had become tangled up in a snare Saturday at Shubie Dog Park in the Dartmouth area. Apparently the Border Collie was found with a snare caught around its neck. The dog was not doing anything wrong the owner having allowed the dog to run in a designated off leash area.

Several community members went out to the off leash area of the dog park earlier today to search for more snares but only found one. They believe though that if they found one there will be more as the park is nearly 40-acres and impossible to search under every tree an bush with just a few people out looking. At this time the authorities don’t know if the traps were set out to catch dogs in the park or if someone was trying to catch a wild animal. They do know that as far as they can tell the snares were not put out by anyone in the government. Officials are worried because the trap was too big to be trying to catch rabbits and apparently too small to be catching coyotes which leads them to believe whoever set the trap was going after dogs in the park.

If you or anyone you know frequent this park it might be a good idea to stay away for a while or not use the off leash area of the dog park until the person responsible is found and a complete sweep of the park to look for additional snares has been made.
