RSPCA Only Takes in Puppy Because It Will Be Media Star

Georgie the puppy found in the rubbish bin

As a dog blogger with countless readers in the UK I am routinely told by our readers that the RSPCA will not take in dogs that are found on the street unless they are going to attract the attention of the world wide media and therefore mean more money in donations. Just a few days ago someone that we now consider a friend told us they called the RSPCA on a stray dog and was told by the person on the other end of the phone that the RSPCA was full and had no money to take in more strays. Or how about the countless calls they receive about abused or neglected animals that they say they can’t get to because of lack of resources and personnel. Instead of going after dog fighting operations the RSCPA prefers to prosecute the eldery who love and care about their animals. Even if they can’t care for them like they did when they were younger and more able bodied yes they can use some help help caring for themselves let alone their pets. But instead of reciving some help getting their dog to the vet for annual exams or a pensioner getting a few bags of free dog food they prefer to prosecute these people as horrible criminals trying to abuse, neglect, and torture their pets.

However when they are called about a cute wide eyed puppy found in a rubbish bin (that’s garbage can for those of us in the US) they run right over and call the press on the way. Yes Georgie the puppy is cute and adorable and yes she needs to be cared for by people who will help get over her rubbish bin ordeal which probably left her dehydrated and in need of food. But because she is so cute quite honestly she could have found a family willing to foster her in a minute and probably already has a line of potential adopters from around the world. Why then did the RSPCA not only take in Georgie when just a few days ago they said they were full and did not have money but are having a staff member personally foster her until she is old enough and big enough to be adopted out? Clearly it is for the media attention. Take one look at Georgie and you kno wshe is a media star. Sweet cute puppy face, wide eyes, and a crazy story about being thrown in the garbage by someone who had no more use for her.

Georgie is thought to be a labrador cross so she is not exactly a small dog even if she was the runt of the litter. She is about six weeks old so not in need of special bottle feedings and capable of eating soft food on her own with a few harder treets thrown in to help build her little puppy teeth. The only reason to have her at a staff members home is to have a loving caring place to send reporters who want to have some one on one time with her.

Not to lessen Georgie’s ordeal or the applause for those who found her and brought her to saftey and to a second chance at life but she was not the only dog in need of help this week in the UK that was brought to the attention of the RSPCA. In fact a small little rescue would have been able to help a lot of other dogs because of the extra eyes that Georgie brings in with in with her story and cute puppy face.
