Golf Course Working Dogs Have Very Own Calendar

Each year golf course Superintendents nominate their dogs to be included in the yearly calendar (click for pdf of 2011). They nominate their dogs for the hard work they do day in and day out protecting the courses (click for 2012 nominee slideshow) from everything from squirrels to geese and even coyotes. While it might not seem like work to these dogs they play a vital role in keeping the courses around the world pest free and golfer happy.  A dog on a course can virtually eliminate a problem in under a week that has cost the course tens of thousands of dollars in repairs and keep the problem away for 10 years or more depending on the health and how well the dog continues to get around.

As the guardians of their respective golf courses they actually get more rewards then the amount of work they have to put in. An early morning run around the 18 holes finished off with a swim in the pond or lake during the spring and summer or running through the sandtraps and snow in the winter with a tennis ball in their mouths seems like play time. What dog wouldn’t be happy with 160 acres to run around and play in. Some even get to greet the golfers and hang out with them while they play going from hole to hole in the back of the members golf courses.Even when the course dogs get too old to chase after the geese just their presence in the golf carts and early morning walk keep the geese from coming back.

Unfortunately we cannot find where these calendars are sold. Please let us know if you know where they can be purchased.
