Blind Dog Still Goes Hunting with Owner

English Setter Stock Photo

Watching Golly the English Setter, work a field for pheasants or sharp-tailed grouse, and you’d never know the dog is blind. Due to his blindness he no longer hunts in heavily wooded areas where he could bump into trees or bushes instead his owner takes him to hunt in the prairie lands where things are flat and there is less of a chance for an accident but other then that Golly is like any other dog out hunting with their owners or handlers.

He still tracks the animals like a sighted dog going back and forth until he picks up on the scent and then points in the direction the bird is. When the bird flushes and Mr. Moody Golly’s owner shoots it, somehow Golly knows exactly where the downed bird has landed. Golly is a happy dog that enjoys going out hunting with his owner and doesn’t let the fact that he is completely blind stop him from anything. Once in a while Mr. Moody has to make a loud sound because the dog is about to bump into something.
