Putnam County Indiana Humane Society Shutting Its Doors

What happens to shelters that care for dogs and cats when donations are down and intake it up. They can contemplate cutting costs but that is impossible when the number of animals is on the rise and they are already working with limited staff. There were still 5 dogs and 26 cats that are now living on borrowed time. The shelter will be closing its doors for good on September 30th and the board of directors has decided all animals still in their care on that day will be euthanized.

Visiting the Human Societies website this message is what you are greeted with:

It is with extreme sadness that we announce that the shelter will be closing on September 30, 201. We have been instructed that all animals are to be placed by the 30th or be euthanized.

Any animal at the shelter that is already spayed/neutered will be adopted out with a “choose your own adoption fee” special. Those not spayed/neutered will be adopted out with an adoption fee to cover the costs. ALL adopted animals will be s/n before going home. PLEASE help us place these animals!

Between now and the end of September, the shelter will be open Tuesday and Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. for adoptions.

Financial donations are still desperately needed to cover costs through the end of the month, in addition to covering debts.

If you live in the area and are looking for a new family pet please go and check them out on Saturday. Hopefully they can all find homes before it is too late.
