90 Puppies Born Since PuppyMill Raid in Canda Over the Weekend

About 90 puppies have been born since over 500 hundreds of dogs were seized from a PuppyMill northwest of Ottawa with more pregnant mommas with babies on the way. More than 500 dogs were removed from the Paws ‘R’ Us kennel in Clarendon Township, Que., about 90 kilometers northwest of Ottawa, during last weekends seizure. The dogs were taken to an emergency shelter in Lachute, about 115 kilometers east of Ottawa.

The dogs will remain there until a custody hearing determines whether they will be returned to the owner of the kennel or placed under the care of the province. About 100 dogs received critical veterinary care when they arrived at the emergency shelter.
About 150 require daily veterinary attention for a broad range of health problems, including respiratory, ear, eye and skin conditions. Many of the healthier ones have been diagnosed with parasites and have needed to be dewormed and vaccinated. Emergency shelter workers will not say if any dogs have had to be put to sleep due or died due to their condition since they have come into their care. I the owners of the kennel are charged it would only involve possible fines, but not imprisonment, for the kennel operator

They are being kept in cages spread throughout almost 10,000 square feet in two buildings of a previously vacated government complex, including former office space where carpeting has been covered with plastic sheeting and sealed with duct tape. There are dogs of all shapes and sizes that were seized and now living in the emergency shelter. About 70 large-breed dogs, such as Saint-Bernards, were seized; the same number of medium-sized animals, such as Labradors; and 385 small breed dogs.
