2 Dogs on Runway in Juneau Cause Plane to Abort Landing

Two black Labrador retrievers ran onto a runway at Juneau International Airport on Sunday, forcing an Alaska Airlines flight from Anchorage to abort its initial landing and circle around for a second attempt. Juneau radio station KINY-AM 800, which first reported the story, says the owner of the dog caught on the runway was out of town during the incident and had left the dogs in someone else’s care. Authorities say when the owner of the dogs returns home he will be cited for letting the dogs get onto the runway. One dog was caught and the other seems to have found its way out of the airport at least officials think so as a Black Lab matching the second dog’s description was found wandering local streets.

Airport officials say they’re not sure how the dogs were able to get to the runway area but will be investigating as it is a major breach of security that anything could get into the airport complex without security knowing about it.
