Hotel for Dogs

Elite Suites Double Room

Dave and Jenny Shackelford are dedicated to taking care of dogs. After years of researching the dog boarding business, they built their own high quality dog resort from scratch. During their research they found that most dog boarding facilities are not suitable living habits for dogs or any animal so they built the Elite Suites Pet Resort specifically for dogs. They have committed their business to provide a seemingly unique service. Elite Suites is a 133 suite luxury hotel for dogs. And each suite has a color television. “Some people make fun of us for the TVs,” said Shackelford. “However, it is good for most dogs because it provides a noise that makes them feel at home.” When they built their facility they were focusing on comfort and safety so the hotel design has taken both of these into account. Each suite includes at least one wrought iron bed some are built for multiple dog households so the dogs can all stay together. On top of the bed frame sits an orthopedic mattresses complete with fresh linens. There is artwork on the walls and live plants line the hallway. Each guest is treated to multiple outside exercise periods daily even in the middle of the summer where they can play with several of their friends or alone if that’s what they prefer.

Rates for the customer, however, are reasonable considering the luxury being offered. A night in a normal suite costs $50 and there is no early drop off fee and no late pick-up fee. As long as the dog is dropped off after opening and picked up before closing, only the nightly rate is charged.

The Shackelfords found in their research that other boarding places may not board certain breeds or dogs who are show dogs because they are left intact. The resort accepts any dog regardless into their luxury suites. However, the resort does label certain dogs with a red collar. Dogs who wear a red collar may be show dogs, recovering from a surgery, not spayed or neutered, or dog aggressive. The red color alerts the staff that the dog does not mingle well or should not mingle with other dogs due to illness or the change they could become pregnant. These dogs are still taken into daycare or given a suite for the night. The staff just makes sure that these dogs do not spend time with any dog other then their family group though in some cases they could be kept separate from their family group as to not mix male and female show dogs.

They had such success with their first location that they have now opened a second location opened. Both locations are in Texas one in Southlake and one in Heath.
