On Wednesday we brought you information that 30,000 dogs faced death from a complete ban on dog ownership due to rabies outbreak in the Jiangmen area of China. Even before the news hit the international press there was pressure from within China to cancel the area wide ban on dogs. “Jiangmen government’s controversial decision enraged the Chinese public, so much so that millions of messages of condemnation, concern and plea flooded the online forums, blogs and social networking sites in China.” said the International Fund for Animal Welfare

“I am tremendously happy and proud to see that public uproar from within China stopped this unethical killing. said Grace Ge Gabriel, Asia regional director for the International Fund for Animal Welfare. “In the past we were only able to stop some of the dog culls with international pressure.”

Citizens will be able to keep their pets but are forbidden from taking them to some public areas including parks, city squares, schools, kindergartens, shopping malls and hotels etc. The amendment also regulates more humane ways to deal with the dogs in the prohibited areas by persuading their owners to remove the animals.
