Dog Saved From Tsunami by Dog Show

Mai Hime with Yossi taking 2nd Place in Best Puppy Competition

Mai Hime a five-month-old female Akita who recently participated in the Mediterranean Winner Dog Show that took place recently in Tel Aviv, Israel. Mai Hime did not win the event though she did take 2nd place in the best puppy competition show, but her story is special the very fact that she is alive and competing in a dog show is special.

Yossi Rothschild handler and caregiver for Mai Hime loves Akitas and has traveled to Japan several times where he began to learn the local language and has gotten to know some of the Japanese breeders who care for and raise Akitas. The Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami on March 11, 2011 put Yossi into the role of caregiver for Mai Hime because her family actually lived in Sendai one of the hardest hit areas of Japan an they felt it would be best if she could go somewhere more stable and able to attend to her needs and help her grow up to be the dog they hoped she would be.

It took Yossi several days to reach the family in Japan that was taking care of Mai Hime when the Tsunami struck, due to the telephone problems and all the chaos that prevailed following the tsunami. When he finally was able to contact those caring for Mai Hime and learned that she escaped the tsunami because she left the city of Sandai an hour before it was flooded in order to attend a dog show.
