3 Fun Local Adventures Anyone Can Have with their DOGS!

1. Visit the local Pet Supply Store.
Sometimes you need to have an indoor adventure because it is too hot or raining and you and your dogs need some time away from home. Eve though this is inside it is a smell and sight adventure for your dogs even if they go on a regular basis. Most pet supply stores allow you to take your friendly dogs in with you. So, leash up your pup and go shopping. They will love browsing the aisles, seeing the other dogs, and of course picking a treat or new toy up on their way out. They will also love all of the attention they get from other shoppers and the people that work in the store. Bring your camera there are lots of opportunity for some fun pictures and the stores generally don’t mind if your use their products as props. Just be sure to keep things clean and don’t take over the entire store while taking your pictures.

2. Visit a local dog friendly park.
This is not the dog park but a park that is welcoming of on leash friendly well behaved dogs. National Parks aren’t very dog friendly but your local National Forest is. Pack a dog friendly lunch and hit up the local dog park. Take plenty of snacks, water, a clean blanket to rest on. This is a great way to socialize (or not), get them active, and enjoy a day out in the sun. Remember the sunscreen for you and a way to get under the shade when resting both for you and your dog. Again bring the camera. Outdoor pictures are the best pictures and since you are sure to have an adventure you will want to capture the memories.

3. Find a Doggy Drive Thru
Some ice cream shops offer a doggy cup for canine friends. Find out if any in your area do and take them for a free treat. If you can’t find a shop that offers one, perhaps just head to the ice cream shop and snag a kiddie sized vanilla cup. They are sure to love the cool treat and all of the new friends they make while hanging out outside and enjoying their treat. Don’t let anyone pet your dogs while they are enjoying their ice cream (you don’t want your dog to think that a child that just wants to say hello is going to steal their frosty treat but let them hang out before or after the treat and make new friends. Your dog will love getting to lick ice cream covered kids hands and get some extra attention.

  1. You really have some unique ideas. M says she wishes she would have thought of those things 30 years ago when she had her doggie. She and Fritz only got to take walks every day, or he would go out in the yard by himself or for playtime with M. She just thinks your two doggies are so very cute.

    • Thank you! We don’t go on adventures all that often because Davinia is not that great around other dogs but when we do adventure we have fun doing it.

Indiana loves to climb rocks. She has loved it since she was a itty bitty 4 week old puppy. She was climbing a rock in the first picture I saw of her. Shhhh don’t tell but the picture of Indiana on the rock and Davinia climbing up the hill is actually a picture of the girls playing at grandma and grandpa’s house. They live right next to the National Forest so if they had gone another 15 feet they would have been in the forest.

  2. We love doing all of the above in the summer! We also like going to Starbucks and sitting on the patio (early in the morning before it gets hot). The pups get a little cup of whipped cream and tons of attention from people!
