We were able to find our supplies at our local thrift shop. Christmas stockings were .50 cents each and stuffed animals just .25 cents each. If you don’t have any local thrift stores, you can always check out your local dollar store too. When looking for a stuffed animal, look for one that is not TOO stuffed or firm, as you are going to be cutting it and want to make it as easy as possible.

Directions for your DIY Stocking:
1. To begin, use your hands to move as much of the stuffed animal batting away from the neck. This is where you are going to cut the stuffed animal. I know, it feels so odd to do it but I assure you the finished product is adorable.
2. Use your scissors and cut directly across the neck of the stuffed animal so you can remove the head. You will need some extra fabric to adhere the head to the stocking, so leave at least an inch of it below the neck.
3. You can do the same now with the paws if you wish, moving the batting to make it easier to cut. Make a simple snip and remove each paw.
4. Take the head and paw and position them how you would like for them to lay on the stocking. You can even add a drop or two of hot glue to secure them into place so they don’t move around.
5. Now, take your needle and thread and just make a few very simple stitched to adhere the head and paws to the stocking. The goal is to make it look like the dog is peaking out of the stocking at you.
Once the head and paws are on securely, you are all ready to display your piece. Go ahead and hang it from your mantel where it will wait patiently for Santa to fill it with treats.

Grab the supplies you need to make your own simple DIY Stocking for dog lovers. It is not only a fun and frugal DIY project, but a great one to get your home festive for the holidays as well!

  6. It’s so cute. I’m not much of a crafter – I’m more of a baker so that’s where I do my creating. This would be so cute for my girlfriend though and it looks easy enough….
