Several weeks ago, Knox the dog (a 4 year old Golden Retriever) woke up with difficulty breathing. His owners Nathan and Elizabeth decided to take him to the vet, assuming that is was nothing more than a respiratory infection and that he would be back to playing in no time. It wasn’t an infection, Knox was diagnosed with lymphoma which has taken over his lymph nodes even with help his body just cannot fight off this horrible disease. After consulting with the vet on possible treatments and quality of life it was determined that they would make Knox’s comfortable but not subject him to chemotherapy during the last weeks and months of his life. They decided that they would allow Knox’s to live out his life in the way he knows best with lots of love, attention, games, and trips to his favorite places.
As news of Knox’s condition and prognosis spread around to family and friends phone calls and and text messages came pouring in. Elizabeth’s sister sent a get-well present to Knox and that sparked an idea for Nathan’s sister, Hannah.
“Wouldn’t it be cool if Knox got a gift every day and every day had something new and fun to come home to,” said Hannah. “I decided to post an event on Facebook and see if it could get any attention and help Knox get some gifts.”
Hannah created a Facebook event called “Knox’s Best Days Ever“, encouraging friends and family to send Knox a small gift or treat that he could enjoy in the last 8 weeks of his life. Over 200 people have joined the group and messages of love and hope are being shared with Knox’s family. It seems that Knox has received quite a few toys and treats so far which his family says he is enjoying.
