Animal Trainer Charged with Abuse and Pet Bloggers Blog Hop

Just one of the many missing dogs

An Oshawa Canda dog trainer will spend the weekend in jail after being charged with four counts of animal cruelty. Craig Wright, the owner of FACW K-9 Training and Rehabilitation Centre Inc., was arrested Thursday.  Police allege Wright or his staff kicked dogs, hanged them from leashes and allowed them to fight.  The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty  to Animals (OSCA) also laid three charges against Wright: permitting distress of an animal, causing distress of an animal and failing to provide adequate standards of care. Wright was also charged earlier this week with obstructing police after allegedly telling two different stories about what happened to a missing border collie. The OSPCA has removed any dogs that were in Wright’s care. He remains in jail pending a bail hearing next week.

The missing collie, Chevy, that sparked the most recent investigation belonged to Linda Fry and Bob Amey, who had only been in possession of the dog for a day when they say they entrusted it to Wright on May 8. Chevy was a farm dog, not housebroken, and with a number of behavioural issues, but the couple “fell in love” with the dog and thought he could be the perfect playmate for Tori, their other collie.

The next day, Fry and Amey say they called Wright to say they would be picking up their dog to take him to see a veterinarian. They claim Wright told them the dog ran away, gave them confusing answers as to where it happened and then stopped answering their calls. Fry said she worries Chevy was sold to a puppy mill because he was purebred and not neutered. She said Wright had earlier argued for “keeping the dog intact.”

Wright’s arrest has prompted other former customers to come forward with allegations about how their pets mysteriously disappeared in his care. There is now a Facebook group, Help Shut Down FACW K9 Training, to support those who dogs have gone missing or were injured while in this person’s care.

Police ask anyone with information about this case or if you know the whereabouts of any of the missing dogs to please contact Det. Morrisette at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 3617. Anonymous tips can be given to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca.

For a little something different this week and to branch out and meet some new people I decided to participate in another blog hop to debut our new look and hopefully find even more animals lovers. We love all animal lovers not just dog owners. We want to know about them all even the ants on the ant farm which reminds me I seem to always forget to put this out there. We would love to have guest posts from children talking about their pets and how they love them and care for them. Even though I am supposed to be cleaning this weekend I will visit everyone who stops by for a visit.

Please read through the updated rules before you enter your link. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

  1. Heartbreaking story. But hope the news goes viral and lets other abusers know that there are consequences for their actions….

Love your blog. Always something compelling to read.

And thanks for hosting the Blog Hop!

  2. Only the weekend in jail? Seems a bit lame. Sure hope they’re planning on much more once all the complaints can be verified, and truths unearthed!! Have a great weekend!

  3. This story really saddens me. My heart goes out to the families of the missing dogs. I can not believe how long this has gone undetected. I hope investigators can crack down on these criminals soon, and by publicizing the missing dogs, perhaps they can be returned to their homes. I came to you through the Saturday Blog Hop.

  4. What a sad story! I hope he is caught and the pets returned safely. How sad about the police/family dogs too.

I love the new look of your blog. It was great before! I will make sure to look in all the “corners”

  5. Pitbulls and Patience says

What a horrible place! Hopefully this will make animal activists and law enforcement more aware of other “trainers” who use their title to justify abuse to the dogs in their care. Kicking and hanging dogs are not conducive to learning in any dog.

Thanks for the article, and for hosting!

  6. OMG. How horrible. I hope that they find the dog, but if it had behavioral problems my guess is his training methods killed the dog.

This is what frustrates me about the animal care industry. Hacks like this guy can call themselves “trainers” and “professionals” when the reality is they are nothing more than animal abusers. There should be more regulation of over this industry. So glad he was charged, but my sadness is for the dog. What an awful thing.

(Stopping by on the Blogger Hop. Really like the new look BTW.)

  7. This story breaks my heart. The word “bastard” comes to mind.
I’m a follower, and this hop is found on a page on my site that lists more than 200 hops, memes, and photo challenges… some for each day of the week. Check under the header for the link to that page. I’ve also just started a BlogFrog community that focuses on hops, carnivals, memes, and photo challenges. Go to to visit & participate.
I hope you’ll visit me soon and follow back!

  8. Hi Y’all,

Thanks for another great blog hop. I’m so non-tech…especially it seems today…keep messing things up…couldn’t even find the code to make the list appear…Maybe I should just let the dog do it all!

  9. This is terrible. Too many times we’re finding those we entrust with our pets are not trustworthy.

  10. Thanks for hosting the blog hop! I keep managing to have trouble every week on finding a way to grab the code for the hop button.

  11. Thanks for hosting the blog hop Felissa.. we seriously need better laws…. a friends dog recently passed away in boarding, which they claimed was because of cardiac arrest, but they later found was heat stroke.. coz the Air conditioner had stopped working and the kennel people didnt take the heat seriously enough.

Do check out the award that is waiting for you on my blog!

  14. For DISCOUNTED PRICE! Sam 2010 Book says

This web page is mostly a stroll-by way of for all of the data you wished about this and didn’t know who to ask. Glimpse here, and also you’ll definitely discover it.

  15. When you drop your pet at a pet trainer, be sure that your pet will be treated well or else it will end up like one of these stories. Pet owners should be aware of this issue and act that they care. Let us protect our pets.
