Unclog Your Pipes Without Chemicals

Unclog Your Kitchen and Bathroom Pipes without Chemicals

I don’t know about you but when it comes to dealing with clogged pipes the chemicals to deal with it make me really nervous. The noxious smell alone makes me worry I am poisoning the house as well as the water supply by pouring the stuff down the drain. If it gives off smoke as the liquid touches the water it can’t be all that good to be near right? Some products claim to be all natural and I am sure there are natural products that can do that when they come in contact with water but the smell makes it very questionable.

The sink in my bathroom rains really slowly but I really did not want to put chemicals in it and leave it for a few hours so I decided to do some looking around online for a happier less toxic solution. What I found? Probiotics! Yep high quality large bacterial count Probiotics works just as well in most instances as the chemicals with none of the worry. It can be used as a preventative no matter how old the pipes are or the type of pipe. Probiotics are not going to eat away at the PVC or cooper or any other metal. It just wants to eat the nasty bacteria that is clogging things up!

What do you need? This is really easy. Take one serving of your favorite high quantity Probiotic think hundreds of millions or billions of active cultures and mix with a water bottle full of water. I old use 16 oz bottles. Let it sit for an hour or so an simple pour it into the sink or toilet and let it get to work. 4 hours is a minimum but overnight is even better. You should find the water level going down on its own within an hour but you want it to continue to work its way along the pipes to clear out the clog. You can pour an extra bottle of lukewarm water down the drain if the water level goes down rather quickly but you know the clog is still there in order to keep things moist and the bacteria happy.

The best part of using Probiotics for getting rid of clogs and preventing them is that you don’t have to worry about who is going to breathe the air or use the sink or toilet next. If after rinsing the remaining Proiotics away you don’t have to become obsessive and use even more chemicals to wash away the chemicals water will do the trick and no one has to worry.

You can actually grow your own Probiotics from the water that you get off your rice when washing it but I am not into any extra kitchen science projects so I opt for the store bought Probiotics. There are a bunch of websites out there with the recipe if you want to make your own.

This sounds great. I definitely need to get this. I love chemical free stuff like this.

  2. I love finding ways to avoid using chemicals, especially around the house. I’ll have to check this out.

  3. I use probiotics to unclog my personal pipes, ahem, but never knew they could be useful elsewhere! I have a lot of different probiotics on hand, I wonder if there is a specific strain or concentration that works best?

  4. That is so awesome! You should never use chemicals to unclog your drains. It’s bad for the environment, and it’s TERRIBLE for your pipes.

    • You sound very against chemicals but you’re showing a lack of knowledge. Everything is a chemical. Water is a chemical – dihydrogen monoxide. You are using a broad sweeping term like “chemicals” to describe anything that might be used to clean a pipe. This is a problem of society these days – people who clearly lack knowledge or training in the area are becoming advocates for particular topics. Can I make a guess that you are non-vaccination as well?

      • You win the dumb award. No where on my Blog have I ever said I am anti vaccinations for myself or my dogs. I am against adding extra toxic chemicals into my house if there is an option that is a bit cleaner and safer. I pick my battles and if Probiotics will unclog drains why do you even care?

What do you think about using baking soda? I heard that works quite well in things like toilets. However, I have never tried it myself. Like you, I don’t like to use things like chemicals in my toilet. I feel like they can really do more damage than good. The last thing that I would want is to make my toilet in worse shape than necessary. http://www.blackburnbennett.com/services.html

  23. That’s AMAZING that probiotics can be used to clear drain clogs! We are trying to ditch all of the poisonous chemicals in our home. I had no idea there was an alternative.

  24. Drain cleaning allows your pipes to dispose of your wastewater quickly. The more efficient your waste plumbing, the less of a risk to cross-contamination issues, such as backflow. We do not want organic waste to begin to accumulate inside our piping, which can lead to blockages and piping damage.

  25. I love the idea to use probiotics! I never would have thought of that. We keep getting clogged drains, that are just a little too far down to snake out with the “drain zipper” so I may have to give this a try. We’re having a plumber come out to see if there’s something stuck down there that keeps getting stuff built up on it.

  26. I totally agree that sending chemicals down my drain makes me a little nervous. The thought of corroding through the metal just makes me queasy in general. Thus, having a plumber come to take care of the situation is the only way for me to deal with the situation.

  27. I’ve heard so many different ways to unclog your toilet, but I’ve never heard this one before. I’m really glad to hear that these probiotics work on old drains, as I know our toilet is a bit aged. I’d like to try this out as soon as I can get my hands on some probiotics, thank you for this help!

  28. Most of us are in the habit of squeezing out every last day of service out of such equipment. Yet, replacing any unit more than 12-15 years old probably can pay for itself within a few years through reduced energy or water usage.

  29. I’m pretty open to any drain cleaners as long as they are chemical free. I had a pretty crazy experience unclogging my pipes with a chemical product one time and I’ve vowed to never use them again. I would have never thought to use a probiotic to clear out the drain. That’s absolutely brilliant! Thanks for sharing!

  35. Great read. I have some good tips too which I want to share with you :-
    – Pour 1 cup baking soda followed by 3 cups of boiling water down the drain. Repeat if needed.
    – Pour 1 cup of vinegar, lemon juice, or a handful of baking soda into the drain and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then run some hot water.
    – Run some hot water after every use to control odors and keep pipes running clean.
    – Pour a strong salt and water solution regularly down the drain to keep grease from building up.
I hope these tips will help you out. Good luck 🙂
