Do It Yourself Golf Ball Dog for Father’s Day

Do It Yourself Golf Ball Dog for Father's Day
This fun Do It Yourself Project is great for Father's Day. Kids will love helping to make these cute golf ball dogs for dad's desk at work or to use as bookends in the house.

Ingredients
  • 7 Golf Balls Per Golf Ball Dog
  • 2 Googly Eyes per dog
  • 2 puff ball
  • 1 Golf Tee
  • Paint
  • Paint Brush or small piece of sponge
  • Glue Gun
Instructions
  1. If you are going to make a painted Golf Ball Dog you will want to paint the Golf Balls at this point and allow to dry. The instructions I found said you could wait to paint it until after it was all put together but either the person had not tried or is just way better at crafting then I am. I used a water based gold paint and a sponge to paint the balls. I let them dry on a used but clean piece of aluminum foil. I suggest you apply a second coat of paint and allow to dry overnight so that all the writing from the golf balls is covered up.
  2. Older children that are allowed to use a glue gun with supervision might choose to forgo paint and allow the golf balls to show. I think the golf ball dog looks great this way and is perfect for dad's that love to golf.
  3. Plug in your Glue Gun to heat it up.
  4. You will want to use one that is either high temp or one that has 2 temp options. Set it to to high temperature.
  5. Put a generous amount of glue on one golf ball and stick it to a second golf ball. This can either be the front or back half of your golf ball dog or one side. Hold together for about 15 seconds to allow the glue to harden slightly before moving on. From now on any golf ball that is touching more then one other golf ball will need to have glue on all sides that are touching other balls in order to keep it secure. Make sure to hold each additional golf ball in place after gluing it together. Your golf ball dog should have 4 legs.
  6. You will now be adding the body which sits in the middle of the legs. Remember to add glue in all places that the golf ball touches another golf ball.
  7. Now comes the head which take a bit more time to dry and you will need to hold it in place. The head of the dog can either be placed high on the body of the dog or can be placed so that the head is pointed slightly downward.
  8. Place a generous amount of glue on the golf ball that will be the head and press it firmly against the golf ball dog's body. Hold it in place for at least 30 seconds to one minute.
  9. Allow to dry for about 15 minutes before gluing on the tail.
  10. At this point you could use regular craft glue to allow your children to help in the creating. The only part that will need to be held in place for some time is the golf tee which is rather long. The tee can be placed high on the body for a happy tail or in the center of the golf balls for a more relaxed tail. I like happy dogs so chose a higher tail. If you don't have access to golf tee you could use a piece of pipe cleaner or a bigger sized puff ball.
  11. If you decide to use the golf tee for the tail I suggest gluing on a puff ball so that no one accidentally pokes themselves on the sharp tip. For one of the dogs I painted the golf ball to match the color of the dog. The other I left natural and since it was a wood golf tee it looks great the way it is.
  12. I also suggest using Googly Eyes for your golf ball dog but you could easily use very small puff balls or your children can draw the eyes on a piece of paper and glue them on.
Notes
Somehow one of the heads of my golf ball dogs fell off so I glued it back on. Make sure to hold the head firmly pressed against the golf ball dog. *I don't recommend painting the dog after you put it together because there are areas that are very difficult to get to but that you can see the white of. Take the extra time and paint the gold balls first or purchase colored gold balls.
