For those of you who have sat near me at a conference or blogging event you know I have a lot of food issues. I am a vegetarian (I will eat milk, fish, and eggs) I am allergic to Gluten (though I do not have Celiac Disease) and I am allergic to soy products including anything with soy lecithin in it and I have an issue with raw vegetables (I can have some but I can’t just have a salad for lunch or I will be sick). Not really healthy but it allowed me to function during the day until I could get back to my hotel room and order Chinese Food (while many of their dishes are made with soy sauce they know exactly what those are and can simply make hot fresh vegetables without soy sauce plus if I am really lucky they will have rice noodles that I can get with vegetables and egg and I am feeling great). But with there being soy lecithin in most chocolates (an ingredient that is supposed to be so broken down from its original state that it isn’t supposed to be an issue for those with soy issues makes me react just as much as if I was drinking straight soy milk. So there went my go to snack to get through the day at a conference or blogging event.
It also took away the way I would start my morning not just at conferences but every morning. I was drinking a Body By Vi Shake – full of protein, minerals, and nutrients that my body really needed I could add fruit something that I honestly don’t eat enough of on a regular basis which really loaded up on things our bodies all need to function. The shake itself tastes like cake mix (no joke) but I never really lost significant weight on it like most people who have tried it. We could never figure out why it wasn’t like I was adding whipped cream on top or doubling the portion size or putting in giant amounts of peanut butter or other high calorie add ins. That was until one day when I broke out in a really itchy rash on my arm and through elimination realized I was allergic to soy. My body probably could not process the amounts of soy I was taking in each day and therefor was not allowing me to loose weight. The truth is I felt great, had a ton of energy, and could function. I also happen to have had blood work done a few months after starting the shakes and my results were really great.
