Dog ID Tags for Vacations?

Dog ID Tags for Vacations

We have discussed travel with your dog numerous times on our blog. Whether it is tips to follow before traveling with your dog . Or our post called Does Your Dog Suffer from Car Sickness. Yesterday we wrote about Instructions for your dog sitter but with as much traveling as Davinia and Indiana have done in their life time it has never once been even a thought that they probably should have ID tags special when we go away. Who thinks of making special dog ID tags for vacations. It is probably the last thing on your mind or if you do think about it because you are rubbing your dogs belly or brushing their ears and happen to see their tag you think to yourself oh that has my home phone number on it.

So the other day when I was looking for fun crafts projects to do for our Blog I came across a project from Martha Stewart to make your own dog tags for trips. I thought that was such a smart thing to do and now is the perfect time to share the idea with our readers. If you would like to make your own feel free to click on the link for details.

If however you are not the crafty type or not as crafty as Martha would like us all to be you could find something that is the right size and shape and write in at least their name and your number and then run over to staples or office depot to have them laminate it for you. Then poke a small hole to put to over your dog’s regular id tag. You can put whatever information you think is best if that is just your cell phone and the home phone number that works. The laminated tag will not hold up for very long but chances are you will not be on vacation very long.

What should be included on your Dog ID tags for Vacations:
1. Your Dog’s name
2. Your contact number (not your home number)
3. The contact number of where you will be staying

What you might want to include on your Dog Id Tags for vacations:
1. That this pet is on vacation
2. The name of the home owner or hotel where you will be staying
3. The address where you will be staying
4. The message Please call my owners to let them know you found me.

Information to include on the back of the tag

For those really not crafty or would rather just purchase a tag for the few days you are away here are 13 pages of dog tags on Etsy that are $6.00 or under! There are a ton of styles, colors, and patterns to choose from and many will still have time to ship it out to you before you leave for the Holidays if you order now. (Message the seller if you are worried and let them know when you need it by).

Personally I would put somewhere on the tag that your dog is on vacation so that if anyone sees them they will not think that they can find their way home on their own. Plus the person who found the dog will know that they are probably a little scared (even if the initial running out the door part was fun at the moment) and in need of a friend to help them get back to their mommy and daddy.

  1. Yet another great idea.

  2. This is so smart. I have my cell number on my dog’s tags, but the different area code might scare someone off from calling. Plus, when I am on vacation, I often turn my phone off or am out of range. Adding a second number is super smart.

Seeing as we don’t have dogs, I never thought much about this; but my neighbors have dogs that are like family members. They would really find this helpful; as they have quite a lot of traveling coming up in the next few months.

  4. That is such a great idea. Will share this with a friend who’d appreciate the tip

  5. This is such a great idea!
