Students Train Dogs To Learn Responsibility

Students train dogs to learn responsibility

30 students from Harper High School in Chicago a school known for gang violence will be learning about Human Behavior and responsibility this summer through a program that has students train dogs. The program which is run by a pastor out of Liberation Christian Center and using dogs from Woodlawn K-9 Academy is aimed at giving troubled students a job and keeping them off the streets.

The program goals are to explore pack behavior in dogs and then take a look at gang behavior something these students are intimately familiar with. The students are observing how a puppy raised in a happy loving situation will create a calm, happy puppy. Raising a puppy in a more stressful environment can create violent or aggressive behaviors.

The students will be evaluated on their obedience class participation, how well the dog does under their training, and how quickly the dog learns the various commands and lessons.
