At 4:15 p.m. Friday, a young black-and-white mixed breed dog named Zeus was brought to animal services by a family member hoping it would be placed for adoption.
Fifteen minutes later, Zeus was euthanized after being deemed unadoptable and because there was supposedly no available kennels to keep him confined.
One of the volunteers of the Friends of Animal Services who was at the shelter when Zeus was turned over to animal services said that before she left for the day she played with Zeus and took a picture of him to upload to their Facebook page to try and get hm adopted out over the weekend. She was at the facility until 4:25 just 5 minutes before they closed for the day and at the time that she left there were 10 empty kennels one of which could have been given to Zeus. According to the facilities contract with a low cost spay and neuter clinic they must hold all dogs whether owner turn in or dogs found loose for at least 7 days to give the dog time to get adopted out or at least get used to their surroundings and real evaluation done on their temperament and needs.
By 4:30pm just 30 minutes after being turned over to the facility Zeus had been label as un-adoptable and killed.
