Very Special Needs Puppy Looking for Home / Pet Bloggers Blog Hop

Nathan the very special rescue dog is looking for a home of his own. One that will love him and care for him and understand his special needs.

Cerebellar hypoplasia causes Nathan to tilt his head, but he thinks it’s straight. As a result he walks in circles instead of a straight line. His neurologist prescribed agility training to help him overcome his lack of motor skills. So, Nathan has been training 2-3 times a week since June when he was taken in by MEOW and is excelling at agility. His doctor feels he is progressing very well and that  it is now time for Nathan to have a home of his own.

He has steadily gained 5 pounds a week since he was taken in by MEOW Cat Rescue. It has been decided it would be best for Nathan to continue with agility training/competition for the rest of his life so that his brain stays exercised, thus keeping his motor skills strong. If you are a person that is into agility and would like to help this special little Great Dane thrive Nathan is ready and willing to become your baby.  Nathan is crate trained, tries to walk well on a leash when he is not spinning, is good with other dogs but because of his condition he is alpha, which is how he survived with his siblings as a tiny little puppy. Also he would be safer in a home without stairs or with minimal stairs as depth perception will always be a problem for him. When he gets stressed he loses all sense of balance.

If you are interested in Nathan, first fill out an online application. He is not at the MEOW Cat shelter location. Alternatively, you may email Kelly at [email protected].

  8. Aw… I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for this cutie pie! I think it’s fascinating that agility has helped him so much.

  9. Nathan is so cute. I hope he finds a good home. My sister had a Great Dane with neurological problems, but she absolutely loved that dog.

  10. I wish I had a home where I could have him at the moment… I have a lot of experience with special needs Great Danes. My last Dane was deaf, blind in one eye and albino, so I know exactly how much work, and how rewarding it is to live with these dogs. He looks like such a great dog, and I hope he finds a great home soon.

  11. Hooray for MEOW and to you for this wonderful post. I hope this sweet Great Dane finds a forever home that he so deserves. x Love your website!
