With Cavaliers You Will Never Have a Pillow To Yourself Ever

If you need your space and to sleep with no distractions a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is NOT the dog for you. Before having Cavaliers I never had a dog in my room let alone my bed. At least not with a dog of my own. Davinia changed that. Sure I could have trained her to sleep on the floor in a soft doggy bed or in her crate but honestly I am glad my attempts to do so were thwarted because I love cuddling with her at night. I am not complaining just stating a fact of life in our house. I do not get my own pillow I must share.

The Cavalier Stole My Pillow

I don’t know that I can pinpoint when this craziness started. I don’t think I know the exact day or week or month or year that I lost all use of my pillow at night but it happened. I used to at least get to share the pillows they got the one behind the pillow I sleep on but now Davinia and Indiana want them all. For a while I thought they just wanted the Satin Pillow case on their pillow so put their pillow in a satin pillow case. That did nothing at all though whichever one ends up on the other pillow doesn’t mind it as much.

Tempurpedic Pillow for the Cavaliers?
My Tempurpedic Pillow (similar but mine is a much earlier) so thought the answer was to go out and by their own memory foam pillow but nope they still prefer mine. Have you ever tried to sleep on the tiniest corner of your pillow because one of your dog’s has decided to commandeer your pillow? How about completely lost it because they both want it? Did I mention that the bed itself is a Tempurpedic so the entire queen size bed is just as comfortable as my pillow? I guess it does take longer to warm up but it will and does get to that just right place.

The Sleepless Night With No Pillow

Last night Davinia was sleeping on top of a pile of 3 layers of pillows (only the top one is memory foam). I really wanted to pull my pillow forward and let her have one behind my head but she was so comfy and didn’t want to move that I decided to share. Well she took most of the pillow as her bed and I had a small corner. Of course that made Indiana jealous so she woke up every few hours whining to join us on the pillow. Have you ever “shared” a pillow with 2 dogs? It might work for a few minutes until one of them decides they aren’t comfortable enough because hello…Cavaliers should never be uncomfortable. Which means someone steps on my hair or pushes me off the pillow with their paws while they stretch out. I made Indiana go back to her pillow last night but sometimes Davinia and Indiana will switch and I am none the wiser until the morning and I have a tail banging on my head. That would be Indiana. She usually wakes up happy unless she wakes up whining because Davinia did something to upset her.

I really think I need to find a few strong men (or women) to help move my bed 90 degrees so that the part I have been sleeping on for a while now is on the other side. I think that might help a little. Davinia will sleep in my spot during the day while I am working so it must be comfortable enough which might allow me to cuddle with her instead of have her on my head. So flipping the bed might give her the “comfy” spot to sleep in.

Do They Make Memory Foam body pillow sized pillows?
That is the question that I contemplated last night ok super early this morning when I wanted to go back to sleep and have a pillow to sleep on. would that make a difference in everyone thinking they are sharing my pillow? I know it would take time to break in but buying Davinia and Indiana their own memory foam pillow did absolutely nothing. Ok not nothing but didn’t solve the problem though Indiana does like the pillow enough to sleep on it sometimes. They are still all about my pillow but giving them my old pillow and taking the new pillow didn’t help.

Maybe we can try that again tonight now that it has been around for a while and not so new? Not sure that it will matter they still want to be as close to me as possible practically sleeping on my head.

  1. Your dogs are so adorable. I want a Cavalier so badly. I also want another Catahoula, a Great Dane, and a Goldendoodle.

I have issues. Well, one issue. His name is J and he keeps saying “no more dogs.”

  2. Bailie sleeps with Mom in bed, but she has no interest in the pillows. She likes to lie sideways, butt towards Mom and then in the middle of the night kick her in the face. During the day, she does steal pillows.

  4. Haha! What an adorable post. Yes my dogs love stealing my pillow and having a snuggle.

  5. How wonderful! Having Cavaliers looks like a lot of fun. Cavaliers are very gentle dogs and very bonded to people. They don’t even have an aggressive bone in their body. I would definitely have one if I get a chance.

  6. Our boys will occasionally jump up into bed but they typically stay at the end. That is a good thing because it would be tough to share a pillow with a Golden Retriever! I know exactly what you mean about not moving and remaining uncomfortable as to not disturb the dog. I am guilty of this quite often!
