Whimzees Dental Chews Help loosen Plaque and tartar
I haven’t exactly been the best at Dental Health for Davinia and Indiana over the years and I honestly do regret it. Davinia will let me brush her teeth but Indiana runs and hides under the bed when she sees a toothbrush come past the bathroom door. The one thing I can count on them both accepting is Dental Treats. Ok fine miss picky pants Davinia only likes a few brands but she does love Dental Treats and Dental Chews as well as Marrow Bones and with regular use of bones I do notice that their teeth look better. For the past few months I have tried to be really good about giving the girls a Dental Chew each day.We need to move the dental treat from the start of the day to the end of the day during relaxing time but at least we are being consistent. When it comes to the dental health of your pet dog or cat consistency is key! Create a dental plan for your dog and stick with it.

Dental Health Month Information

Whimzees(TM) formally known as Paragon Chews are from Holland. Several years ago they decided to take a chance on the US and bring their products to Global Pet Expo. This is where the fun begins. I saw their cool looking Treats and had to stop to learn more about them. By the time I left the booth I was sold and knew that they were going to be a giant hit. The Shapes alone are fun enough to pick up a few to let your dog try but it is the all Natural Gluten Free and Vegetarian Ingredients that really make this dental chew different.

When I found out that Whimzees was working with PetSmart during Dental Health month and was a brand we could choose from to work with I was so excited! The assignment was to go and visit PetSmart to pick up some Dental Chews. Davinia and Indiana LOVE to visit PetSmart and ride around in their Blue Shopping carts taking pictures but PetSmart is not around the corner for us and we know that this is the case for many people that live in rural areas plus Davinia and Indiana like to feel like they own the place and don’t want to share with a bunch of other dogs which means a weekday during the day visit which wasn’t in the cards for us this time. PetSmart.com to the rescue! Not only do they offer the same discount online as in store but because my total order was over $49 we qualified for free shipping (remember PetSmart is about 29 miles in each direction. We would have picked up other things in store too). There was also a special deal for an extra 10% off. The best part though is that you have the option to pay directly with Paypal! I think that is really exciting. Click the image to go directly to PetSmart.com’s Whimzees collection.

These Dental Chews don’t smell. To me that is HUGE.
There must be some common ingredient in other dental treats that has this very specific odor and I am not a fan at all. They just smell clean with barely any scent at all.

They don’t leave a mess – another big deal in my book.
I guess I should have realized this the first time I gave the dogs Whimzees but when we did our photo shoot on the stairs which are carpeted there was nothing left behind. No staining or coloring.

Small means small which is the right size for a Hoover Vacuum Cleaner Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
With most Dental Chews and Treats I have to buy at least one size up because Indiana chews about 3 times and she is done. With these the small actually take time for her to chew which means it isn’t just added calories she is actually loosening plaque and tartar. That is what dental treats are meant to do! I got the box with 3 of the shapes so that we could check out as many as possible. So far Davina has licked all of the shapes but has opted for the toothbrush shaped treat twice and Indiana had the stick once and the alligator the second time. Actually Indiana stole an extra one during our first photo shoot and I am pretty sure she did the same thing during our outdoor session as well.

They come in fun shapes!
With lots of fun shapes to pick from your dog is sure to find one they like the most! There is the Hedgehog, Alligator, Stix, Cross Bone, Vege Ear, Rice Bone, Regular Toothbrush, and the X-Large Toothbrush. Most of the shapes come in small, medium, and large so you can find the best fit for your dog’s mouth!

The large box is self serve and is resealable with built in Velcro!

  1. I saw these last time I was at Petsmart and really want to try them. I hadn’t known anyone until now who used them and am planning on picking up some when we go for our weekly trip. Dental treats really are amazing for us dog owners!

  2. Excellent thorough review! Whimzees look so cool w/ all those shapes, I’ve been curious about them. I like your diagram that points out the benefits; I didn’t realize they were both gluten free and made w/ veggies, that’s great! I’ve tried the teeth brushing thing without success, I’ll keep using dental treats to keep my dogs’ teeth clean. Maybe I’ll try one of those pet brushes you wear on your finger instead of using a brush?

  13. I like the Whimzees for my dogs also. Honestly, the first thing that attracted me to them was the cute little alligator shape. But after reading the ingredients, and coupling it with the great price, I was sold! I think my dogs are happy with that result.

  20. I TOTALLY agree with you about the importance of dental chews not having an odor. I love mint, but there’s a dental chew we tried a while back that has a strong mint scent about it, and while Nike seemed to love it, I couldn’t get beyond it. Our favorite Greenies have a scent, but I don’t find it repulsive. Lol.

Great photos. Your girls are little dolls! 🙂

  34. Lately, I’ve noticed that my dog’s breath is quite terrible, and I’ve considered taking him to get his teeth cleaned, but I don’t think he would like doing so at all. With that in mind, I’ve been trying to find a new way to clean his teeth, and I think this chew you suggested might be the perfect way to do so. The grooves on the back half of it would work well for getting unwanted food debris from between his teeth. On a slightly different but still similar note, do you know if there is a similar teeth cleaning chew for humans?
