Now that you have a good idea of how to prepare your dog for the holidays, give these tips a try to ensure his safety just a little more. There is no such thing as being too careful during the holidays, as any vet will tell you this is the time of the year many holiday related accidents happen. Read below to learn more.

1. Secure electrical cords.
You may be using more electrical cords this time of year due to holiday décor. Make sure you secure these cords and keep them away from pets that would enjoy chewing on them. By doing so they risk electrical shock which could be deadly as well as pose a fire hazard.

2. Use battery operated candles.
A busy tail can knock down your holiday candles in just seconds. Instead, use battery operated and there is no longer a burn or fire hazard. Plus, they still look just as warm and cozy.

3. Say no to snow globes.
Dogs are often intrigued by snow globes, but if they get their paws on one they risk injury. Avoid decorating with snow globes and if you do, keep them up high.

4. Put up the candy bowl.
Candy sitting out for guests looks great, but it isn’t safe for dogs. Keep all candy bowls up high and avoid bringing any candy into the house with foil wrappers. It can cause serious issues if ingested.

5. Be mindful of new toys.
Be mindful of the new holiday toys you bring in the house. Keep small parts and pieces locked away so they don’t pose a choking hazard.
