5 Ways to Enjoy Fall with Your Dog

The season of fall is officially here! Celebrate the season with your dog in ways that fun and lead to adventure and playtime! Mother Nature is putting on a real show right now, so there has never been a more perfect time to get out and enjoy. We live in the mountains and so get to watch the seasons change right here in our own backyard. Davinia and Indiana can run through the fall leaves and chase them as they fall. For those of you living in the city the next few weeks are the perfect time to leave the city for the day or weekend and enjoy the changing season.

If you can’t get away right now because of school and events and too much else going on you don’t have to miss out on Fall. Here are some ideas on how you can enjoy Fall a little more locally this year.

1. Rake some leaves.
Rake your leaves into a pile and let your dogs go crazy. Dogs will love chasing after the whirling and swirling leaves. Go outside and give some leaves a toss. Rake them, toss them, and jump in piles of them.

2. Enjoy some sweet treats.
Head to the local bakery where pet safe treats are sold. Snag a pumpkin flavored snack for your four legged friend. Want to make a special treat that will make the entire house smell amazing? Make your own Apple Cinnamon Dog Treats or these Pumpkin Cheesecake Dog Treats baking not your thing but want to make your dog something special? Check out these no bake dog treats with Pumpkin and oats

3. Visit a pumpkin patch.
Call ahead to make sure pets are welcome, and if so then go for a visit! Browse the pumpkins, mums, hay bales and more. Your dog will love seeing all of the sights a pumpkin patch has to offer. If there are no Pumpkin Patches you might be able to check out a Corn Maze instead. Again call ahead to make sure dogs are welcome and enjoy a day in the crisp Fall air.

4. Enjoy a fall walk.
Head down a local nature trail and enjoy the colors of all of the changing leaves. Don’t forget your snacks, water bowl, and blanket so you can stop for a picnic! This is fun to do before sunset so you can really experience all of the colors of the sky together. If your dog likes the car a drive in the mountains to check out the changing colors can be a fun event for the entire family. We had a lot of fun last year going for a drive into the forest with the windows down so that the girls could smell the fresh air. We stopped and got out a few times so that the dogs could explore.

5. Search for a Halloween costume.
It is time to start thinking about Halloween! Start putting together pieces for the best Halloween costume ever! Raid your closets, visit PetSmart and other stores that carry costumes, or swap with a friend.
