DIY Dog Safe & All Natural Grass Fertilizer

All Natural Grass Fertilizer
This incredible idea is from Katie who happens to be a long time Two Little Cavaliers fan, a mommy to 3 adorable kids and a dog, a former preschool teacher before she turned Virtual Assistant and Author, and a gardener. The pictures from her garden are incredible so if she says something about gardening take heed! She sent this to us a few months ago and I sort of forgot all about it until today. What a perfect time to pay a little attention to your lawn and get it is tip top shape before the weather really starts to cool down and the frost sets in. A healthy lawn will do better during the cold winter months and might even stay green longer for your dogs to enjoy.

You may want a gorgeous green lawn, but don’t want to risk exposing your pets or kids to harmful chemicals. As a result, you may neglect your yard and hope it can fend for itself. Well the good news is, you no longer have to! There is an easy, dog safe and all natural solution you can turn to instead. Take a look below at how to make your own dog safe and all natural grass fertilizer. Your grass will be looking greener and well fed in no time, and you don’t have to worry about exposing your pup to harmful chemicals.

Supplies needed for your all natural grass fertilizer:
Large bucket
Garden sprayer
2 gallons of water
4 bottles/cans of regular beer
1 cup of molasses
Use a garden sprayer that has the compartment you can fill with the mixture of your choosing. Most lawn and garden shops carry these at a reasonable price.

Directions for your all natural grass fertilizer:

1. In the large bucket, combine your water and beer. It may help to use water that is slightly warm, as the mixture will mesh quickly that way.
2. Pour in the molasses. Give the mixture a good stir until the molasses blends into the water and beer solution.
3. For a little pest control, you can add a few tablespoons of Dawn dish soap if you wish. If you wish to skip this step, give the mixture a final stir and you are ready for us.
4. Pour the solution into the garden sprayer and spray liberally on your lawn. You can use the solution several times a month if you wish to get your yard in tip top shape.
5. When you are done spraying, wait a few hours before watering.

Your lawn will love the natural ingredients in the beer such as yeast, hops, and barley, while the molasses provides the sugar your grass will feed off of as well. As soon as the mixture is applied, your yard is safe to walk on, so there is no need to wait. However…

After you apply your new all natural grass fertilizer allow it to dry BEFORE your dogs or your kids go out to play. The heat from the sun will burn off the alcohol and by allowing it to dry will keep your dog from smelling like a bottle of beer. Plus they will not be as inclined to lick and eat the grass goes for little kids as well. If at all possible fertilize your lawn in sections and allow to dry and get soaked into the grass for a day or two before your dogs and kids play on it. If you want your lawn to look its best give it time to soak up all of the nutrients you just provided it.

Give this easy recipe a try and enjoy a healthy lawn the natural way. Your dog (and your lawn) will love you for it!

  2. This great information is a perfect solution for us. We fertilize out front, but not in the back. Our backyard thanks you very much!

  4. Thank you for sharing a natural and dog friendly grass fertilizer. For the past few months, my lawn has been suffering from some disease, which one I’m not sure, but it has trouble growing. My lawn is patchy and yellow in places, and fertilizer would help, but I’ve been worried about the effects of the chemicals on my dogs. Hopefully this will be a great alternative to traditional fertilizers and lawn disease care that will be safe for my dog but helpful for my grass.

  5. Organic fertilizer is actually soil food that nourishes the organisms, whereas chemical fertilizer feeds plants directly — but much of the chemical fertilizer runs off into lakes, oceans, rivers and groundwater.

  6. Looks great! I love the recipe and a more natural way to keep my lawn looking fresh and green. Thanks for sharing!
