Olive Oil: Good for Your Pet and Good for You!
Do you use olive oil in your daily cooking? Not only is olive oil tasty, but it is a great way to get some of the healthy oil you need. If you love cooking with olive oil, why not share the wealth with your dog too? Dogs can benefit from the healthy ingredients olive oil has to offer and in just a few servings, you can notice a sure difference. Take a look at how you can begin incorporating it into your dog’s diet.
So how does olive oil work?
Olive oil contains healthy fats that nourish your dog’s skin and coat. It is also believed that olive oil can help your dog absorb more of the nutrients that are found in his food. Just like olive oil based salad dressings can help you absorb more of the vitamins in your salad, it can do the same for dogs.
How do you serve it?
You don’t have to get fancy with olive oil. Serving it can be as simple as pouring it over their food. Don’t get crazy, about a teaspoon is plenty. Simple sprinkle it on their food and stir it in. You do not need to do this daily. A few times a week works just fine.
What kind of olive oil should you use?
You want to keep it simple. Don’t use flavored oils, just a basic olive oil is perfect. Stay away from any with additional additives, flavoring, dried herbs, etc. The oil does not have to be extra virgin either, just a basic olive oil will do. Generic options are fine, and may save you several dollars a bottle.
How soon will you see results?
Olive oil will work quickly to improve the skin, coat, and even nails of your dog. After a few days of serving, you should see a healthy change in your dog. Yep, just a few days! Start slowly oil is oil after all and if your dog is on a lower quality food and isn’t used to high quality oils it will be a shock to their system. Start with a small drizzle and work your way up.

This is a great idea! I used to feed fish oil, but it was a bit troublesome with the smell and whatnot. I never thought of using olive oil instead! I will give it a go and see if my finicky eater will like it.
