How to Keep Snails and Slugs Out Of Your Garden

If your yard is being overran by slugs and snails, you may have heard the old beer in the dish solution. Sure you can pour beer in a shallow dish and set it out in your plants, but did you know that your dog may be tempted to sip on it as well? If you are a pet owner, the beer in the dish solution may not be an option. Instead, why not opt for egg shells? Egg shells can provide some serious slug protection easily, without posing any harm to your dog. Take a look below at how to use egg shells in your garden to ward off slugs the easy and safe way.

How to Keep Snails and Slugs Out Of Your Garden

1. Rinse your shells.
After cracking open your eggs for breakfast, rinse the shells under some cold water to wash away any bacteria or remaining egg.

2. Crush the shells.
Crush the shells into large and rigid pieces. You don’t want to create a powder, but rather larger chunks of egg shell. You can do this task with your hands. Store the shells in a plastic baggie when done or in a bowl where you can take them directly to your yard.

3. Start sprinkling.
Now sprinkle the shells around the plants that slugs and snails seem to be attacking. They tend to like hostas and large/broad leaf plants. Create a barrier in a circle right around the plant. If you are unsure where the snails and slugs are coming from, sprinkling the shells around your entire flowerbed works too.

Now all you need to do is let the shells do their work. They will provide an uncomfortable barrier that the snails and slugs won’t want to touch. They will refuse to climb over it and instead go elsewhere and dine. Your yard and plants will be protected when you use egg shells as a slug repellant, and you don’t have to worry about your dog ingesting anything harmful either. Give this a try and see how easy it can be to protect your yard the natural way!
