Supplies needed:
2 cups of grated Fels Naptha soap
1 cup of washing soda
1 cup of borax
Jar with lid
Grater

You can find all of these supplies at your local grocery store. Don’t confuse washing soda with baking soda as they are both different products and one should not substitute the other. Arm & Hammer makes a washing soda product for under $3, so it is a product worth checking out. If you can’t find it at your local store here is a link to where you can purchase a 55 ounce container of Arm & Hammer Washing Soda

Directions:
1. Grate the Fels Naptha finely until you have about 2 cups worth. This will be about one medium sized bar.
2. Mix the grated Fels Naptha with the cup of washing soda and cup of borax. Stir well.
3. Place the contents in an air tight jar. You don’t want to powder to sit out where moisture can get to it and clump or harden it.

We chose to leave our powder unscented, but a drop or two of an essential oil of your choice will scent your product nicely if you wish.

To use your product, add one scoop (about one cup) to your washer as it is filling with water. Then, add your clothing and wash as usual. For tough stains, you can soak clothing in the solution prior to washing for about 1 hour.

You will find that this easy to make, natural laundry detergent washes well, fights stains, and leaves your clothing fresh. Give it a try and see what a difference it makes!

DIY All Natural Laundry Detergent

I told a few friends that I was going to be posting about DIY Laundry Detergent and they asked where they could find the necessary ingredients. In case you cannot find these products in your local store or aren’t sure where to find them and the people at the store don’t seem to be helpful you can purchase the three ingredients Washing Soda, Borax, and Fels Naptha from Amazon. It is not eligible for Amazon Prime but regular shipping looks to be free when I added it to my cart.
