Locked in at the Animal Shelter Update 4 Marshall
Apparently things get really quiet at the Animal Shelter within a few hours of everyone going home for the night. I know that tonight is a little bit different because there are still people here but I think the dogs on the adoption side of the facility have all gotten used to the fact that there are people spending the night with them. Will they be changed dogs? I think it is too early to tell but I did see a major change in one of the dogs between being in the kennel alone and then having someone come in to spend some time with him.
The dog’s name is Marshall and he lives at the Animal Shelter. When I first met him he was a pretty grumpy dog – not at all happy that I was walking by his kennel and even less happy when I stopped to say hello. Since he wasn’t happy about it I moved on to the next dog in the row and was a little surprised that he was chosen as the dog that the Shelter Director had chosen to spend the night with. He seemed like a snarly mess. Apparently he was just having a bd day and is tired of being in a kennel all day long because the minute that Chris the Shelter Director walked in the kennel and I closed the gate behind him Marshall became this giant love bug. Literally cuddling, wrestling, and smiling. A complete and shocking change. It seems like Marshall just wants someone to love him. He needs a daddy plain and simple. Someone to take him on long walks in the woods, someone to give him good food to eat, a soft bed to sleep in (preferably the same one his new daddy sleeps in) and lots of love. Lesson learned. Don’t judge a shelter animal on first impressions. If you are visiting an Animal Shelter to consider adopting a pet give them time to open up and get to know you because they could be the most loving and perfect dog for your family.
Marshall is listed as a Labrador Retriever Mix on adoptapet.com. If you are interested make sure to contact Rabun Paws to learn more about him.

Excellent point! You never know how just being in the kennel might affect them. In a different environment, they can become a different pet.

What an interesting project! That’s a good tip to get to ‘know’ the dogs before assuming their personality. I hope he finds his forever home soon!

What a precious baby. Poor guy, I think it’s a wonderful idea to sleepover in the shelters. Will you keep us updated on if it changes the dogs at all?
