Plants and Flowers are lovely to look at and sweet to smell, but sadly for dogs, not all of them are so enchanting. There are a variety of flowers, leaves, seeds and berries that are not safe for dogs, and in fact can be poisonous if consumed. The purpose of this post is not to scare you, but to educate you on exactly what those plants are so you can be sure you omit them in your landscaping and home décor or at least plant them somewhere that your dogs and the neighborhood dogs cannot get to them by accident. All too often a dog owner is not aware of this information until they notice unusual symptoms from their dogs and have to make a trip to the emergency vet. So take a look at the 28 plants that we have identified as poisonous to dogs, and then go out into your yard and make sure you do not have a potentially dangerous plant growing int he middle of the yard and you can rest easy that while your dogs are playing outside sniffing the plants and flowers that they cannot get sick or worse.

  1. You should also include Sago Palm. It is sold as a house plant in the north and can grow to tree size in the south. We had one in our yard, very beautiful, but all parts of these are deadly. I see so many of these in local yards and I just want to knock on doors and warn them.
