Be an Inspiration for Your Readers

David Leite from Leite’s Culinaria said something today that I want to repackage to be pet blog specific and share with all of you.

People don’t necessarily follow all the tips and tricks you share on your blog. The information your share should inspire your readers fans, and followers to do things so that their pets live longer, healthier, happier lives and creates a deeper more meaningful life with their pets. Make people feel something through the information you share.

I took a lot of liberty with that and it actually looks nothing like the original quote I heard today but it should speak to you as a Pet Blogger the same way the original quote was supposed to speak to Food Bloggers.

I think this is an important message to share with all of you in my post this week because it is something that we often loose sight of. By we I mean all of us (myself included) loose sight of our purpose at one time or another. We get too wrapped up in the day to day or the feeling that we need to post on specific days with specific topics that we forget for the moment why we started our blog. Most of us didn’t start our pet blog as a forum for Socio – Political ideology we created our Blogs to share the human animal bond we have with our pets.

The next time you feel super passionate about a product or a brand take a step back and think about it. Don’t preach to your readers to recreate exactly what you do, inspire them to emulate what you do into their lives. Inspire them to go out and walk a mile a day with their dog because it increases the bond between dog and owner don’t tell them they are killing their dog by not exercising them. Inspire your readers to go out and instead of getting the cheapest cat products available to go out and find products that fit into their lives and their style sense. Inspire your readers to take a more active role in their pets health whether through food choices, or enrichment activities or regular vet visits. The post I wrote several months ago 7 Tips for Dealing with Separation Anxiety in your Dog or Puppy was not meant as a be all end all you must follow these steps in order to achieve success it was meant as a starting point with ideas that could be incorporated into my readers own lives to help solve the problem.

Indiana looking out a window

In keeping with the inspiration theme I want to point out some Blog Post that you all linked up with last week that I think inspired your readers to emulate your example.

1. Something Wagging Inspired us all with their post about Sailing with Dogs. No we are not all going to go out and rent or buy a boat but it inspires us to try new things that would pets can take part in.

2. Sidewalk Shoes inspired us with their post called Coco Outside a post full of beautiful pictures of their cat interacting with the outside world and enjoying some fresh air. While you might not agree or have the ability to allow your cat to go outside it hopefully inspires you to bring a little bit of the outdoors inside. Whether in the form of an open window they can sit by once in a while or creating a small indoor garden for them.

3. My Life in Blog Years shared Dog iPhone Cases they are absolutely adorable. This one needs a little explanation about why I think it is inspirational not only for their readers but for all of us as Pet Bloggers. First all of the cases are from Etsy so they are handmade or at least done by a small business owner in an effort to help support their family. Second they remind us to bring our love of pets into our public life. Share your love of pets with those in your community. Not only will you make new friends you will attract new readers to your blog. You don’t have to be pushy about it either. Subtle little things are even better then hard pitches.

  1. Enjoyed reading your article – especially the part about how important it is to inspire your readers instead of preaching to them! 🙂

  3. I totally agree! We’re usually preaching to the converted a lot of the time anyway, so that can’t be too interesting. So many bloggers do an amazing amount of activities and training; it’s usually inspiring when they share their activities, while preaching about them can be a turn off. Thanks for a great take on this!
