According to Soi Dog Foundation a dog rescue group operating in Thailand A Dog Meat processing factory was raided at 3:30 this morning in the Ponepisai district of Nongkhai province. Acting on information supplied by undercover investigators Royal Thai Navy officers conducted the raid. Two pick up trucks have been seized and drivers arrested. 106 dogs where rescued before being butchered for shipment overseas.

The Thai Royal Navy officers gave the dogs water and removed them from the inhumane conditions of the pickup trucks as they were so packed in they would not survive much longer. A large truck was hired and paid for by Soi Dog to transport them from the Dog Meat Factory to the holding shelter in Nakhon Phanom. 106 dogs were saved from death this morning and now need your help.

Every year tens of thousands of dogs are inhumanely transported from Thailand to neighboring countries where they are butchered by cruel and barbaric methods. However, the Soi Dog Foundation and the Thai government are actively working to end this appalling practice and shut down any Dog Meat Factory operating illegally in the country. Soi Dog with other animal welfare groups has presented draft legislation to the Thai Parliament for strong animal welfare laws to be enacted. This tragic trade is condemned by the majority of Thailand’s population. However the practice still continues.

Awareness of the illegal dog meat trade within Thailand as well as internationally has grown significantly. The documentary Shadow Trade by Environment Films will soon be released internationally. Shadow Trade provides an in-depth view into the trade and the motivations behind the trade. Please take a moment to watch this trailer:

The cost of feeding and providing treatment to the dogs rescued from the trade is astronomical and well outside of Soi Dog’s normal operating budget. It costs approximately $33,000/€25,000 each month simply to feed the literally thousands of dogs who have been saved. It is inevitable that the number of dogs going to these shelters will increase until the trade is finally stopped.

You can help towards the costs of feeding and caring for the rescued dogs by joining the Magic 1000 club today. A monthly donation of $30/€25 (or whatever you can afford) will go towards feeding 4 dogs each month.

Soi Dog Foundation is a not-for-profit, legally registered charitable organization in Thailand, the United States, Australia, the UK, France and Holland. Soi Dog helps the homeless, neglected and abused dogs and cats of Thailand. Our aim is to set an example for the Asian region on how to humanely reduce the number of unwanted dogs and cats through spaying and neutering, and to better the lives and living conditions of the stray dogs and feral cats of Asia.

  1. This is horrible. I never knew about this. Thank you for sharing this and making me aware. I foster dogs, many that come out of puppy mills. It is horrible the way some people treat animals. One of the rescue groups I work with just rescued a dog and it died from the inhumane treatment it received. So very sad.
