What Happens To Dogs Saved From the Dog Meat Trade?
They are sent to Thai government run make shift shelters without adequate medical care. I didn’t say that to condemn what has been done for these dogs but it is the truth. They are being saved from the dinner plate only to find themselves in overcrowded makeshift shelters without adequate anything let alone medical supplies. The dogs live outside in a fenced in area with little prospect of leaving or finding themselves in better conditions.

Khemmaraj government shelter, situated in Ubonratchathani Province, the North-East of Thailand is the 2nd largest dog meat trade rescue shelter with over 1,000 dogs. The shelter has no permanent veterinarian and many dogs are getting injured and sick. There are dogs dying every day.

Bitter Brownie (Bee) and Dr. Prem (the vet) from Bangkok, together with Ulrike Brunner and Sabine Huber-Brunner from Germany organized a trip to aid the dogs and shelter that lasted for 14 days during December 2012. To help the dogs rescued from the dog meat trade at Khemmaraj government shelter, north-east of Thailand. The group raised funds and found donations of medicine and medical supplies to bring to the dog rescued from the meat trade. The supplies collected were used to treat the sick/injured dogs at the shelter. Another fundraising project to build a small clinic at the shelter as a quarantine station for sick dogs has been completed. The construction has already started to build a small clinic at the shelter as a quarantine station for sick dogs. A month long trip is being planned for February 27 – March 27 to continue the work that was started in December.

As I know nothing about the organization from Germany that is planning the trip or anything about the people on the ground in Thailand I don’t feel comfortable giving out their bank account information for donations. But I do know of a dog rescue organization in Thailand that you can contact to find out more information. If you would like to help I suggest you contact The Soi Dog Foundation. They are a legitimate and very hardworking rescue organization in Thailand that I am sure will be able to help you make monetary, food, or medical donations for the dogs rescued from the dog meat trade. https://www.facebook.com/SoiDogPageInEnglish

  1. Geez, what an awful situation. Those poor pups can’t win no matter which way the go. It does sound like the German organization is doing a good job. Thanks for sharing and hosting.

  2. I agree. It seems like every day there is something like this in the news, or someone telling me about something terrible. Just yesterday we found a craigslist ad where a person wanted to trade a pug puppy for a couch. A freaking couch! We contacted the lady, but we didn’t have anything to offer her except $150. We never heard back from the lady…

  3. How sad. I had no idea. Thanks for posting.

  4. May I please know who set this text here? thank you. We are from 27.2 – 20.3 back at Kemmarat. Ulrike Brunner

Wow, I’ve always wondered what happens to those poor dogs. I know dogs saved form fighting rings in the US have all sorts of advocates- It’s great to see another country stepping in to help these pups get better treatment after they’re saved.

  6. Poor dogs. 🙁 I don’t understand how some people can be so heartless. And I am glad to see that some step in to help. I wish more would.
