Halloween Fun for Dog and Cat Lovers

the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation:The SDF Search Dog jack-o-lantern Contest. To enter, simply go to the Search Dog Foundation’s Facebook Page or National Disaster Search Dog Foundation website pick your favorite Search Dog picture and then try your best to carve that design into a real pumpkin. Send SDF a photo of your pumpkin creation and why you picked that Search Dog. The winner will be selected on Halloween by SDF’s staff and will receive free SDF gear! They currently have teams of search and rescue dogs awaiting deployment to the New York / New Jersey area to assist in rescue.



We interrupt this Halloween Fun Post to share a PSA from a fellow blogger that we feel deserves as many shares and repins as possible. This is probably information you have never thought about but please take a second to read it so that everyone who stops by trick or treating this year can have as much fun and participate as fully as possible. Just like you want people to be understanding and respectful of your dog who might not be the friendliest at the dog park or is scared of small children or doesn’t like men but you still want to be able to walk them down the block or hang out at the park watching the children and other dogs from a distance the parents of children with special needs want to be able to allow their children to participate in fun activities and socialize too.

Not sure you can figure out how to carve a picture of a dog into a pumpkin? Check out this site that has free download stencils for you to use on your pumpkin. The American Kennel Club’s list of top breeds inspired this series of pumpkin-carving stencils free for you to download!

Here is an important tip for any pumpkin carving you plan on doing. For all stencils: Start by cleaning out the pumpkin, scraping the flesh thinnest in the region in which you’ll carve the design. Attach the pattern (enlarged on a photocopier) to the pumpkin with tape. Use a pin to make closely spaced pin pricks along the stencil lines, piercing the paper. Remove the pattern. Cut completely through solid lines (as shown on the stencil), but only peel away the skin within the dotted lines to enhance features. I think I will leave this to the experts. Not only are you supposed to cut all the way through but sometimes you need to figure out how to peel only the skin off? I have never even carved a scary face on a pumpkin I will stick to cooking with canned pumpkin thank you very much. I saw this picture on Facebook and had to post it. If cats stayed this small I would have a house full of them unfortunately as they grow I become more allergic to them and can’t have them around constantly.
