Dora’s Fruit and Vegetable Garden

Dora the cat

Dora the Explorer is my parent’s cat. They sort of inherited her after she had made her rounds getting to know all of the people who live in my parent’s community. She is now an indoor outdoor cat. When she is outside and not off on an adventure she is watching over her garden. Since she is so protective of her garden she gets very upset when Davinia and Indiana go for a walk out there when we go to visit. Dora thinks she is queen of the garden and protects it for her daddy. I thought it would be fun to do a regular post called Dora’s Garden. We hope you enjoy the pictures of the fruit and vegetables growing in Dora’s Garden.

Fruit Tree Figs

The fig tree is so full of ripe figs that the tree is practically swarming with bees trying to get at the fruit. My parents aren’t really big fans of figs so they are just letting the animals come and eat them to fatten up for winter. Which also means there is some fruit on the ground. Indiana decided to make sure the fruit was good and ate some that had fallen on the ground.

Inside of a fig

I took some fruit off the tree and brought it inside so I could cut it open and show you the fruit inside. The problem with eating the figs right off the tree is that when you break them off there is a milky sap. The sap is easy enough to wash off from the outside but there is sticky sap on the inside too which makes your mouth feel weird.

Tomatoes on the vine

There are big and small tomatoes growing in Dora’s garden.

Fruit growing on the vine

My dad is not sure if this is cantaloupe or honeydew growing in Dora’s fruit and vegetable Garden. Hopefully Dora can keep the wildlife away so that it continues to grow and in a few weeks is ready to eat.

We hope you enjoy the pictures of the fruit and vegetables we found in Dora’s garden and hope you will come back next week to check out the flowers that are growing in Dora’s Garden.

  6. Hi Y’all,

Just want to hop on by and touch base with y’all. Looks like y’all are havin’ a great day!

Can’t believe y’all still have figs. Ours at the shore are long ripe and gone. It’s a race to beat the birds! They turn a deep purple brownish when ripe and, if a bird doesn’t get there first, fall off. It’s a battle to slip in there and grab the ripe fruit before the Humans catch me! My allergies, you know…but those figs are so yummy I don’t care about the itchies!

    Y’all come by now,
