Last night in Miami where the low for the night was 80 degrees a dog wearing a sweater got loose and fell off of a draw bridge. No the story isn’t made up and its not meant to be a what not to do tale. No dog in Miami even if it is completely hairless (not that this one was) needs to be in a sweater in Miami in the summer. Its beyond not necessary and bordering on abuse that a dog whose coat is meant to protect them from the elements was in Florida in the summer all bundled up like it was winter.
People did try to get the dog to stop going in the direction it was headed – towards an open drawbridge back to safety. The dog had a mind of its own and went towards the open bridge falling into the Miami River below. Onlookers stopped at the open bridge who saw what was happening tried to get the drawbridge operator to close the bridge but it was either too late or the operator did not hear them or completely ignored the sitation.
That small mixed breed dog who dashed off the Brickell Avenue drawbridge as it was being opened has been found alive, more than 18 hours later. Bridge operators found the dog below the bridge on a cement slab where water from a recent rainstorm cushioned the dogs fall.
