Thieves Steal Dog Leaving Note Claiming it was Neglected

Deciding that a dog was not receiving the care it needed thieves stole a family dog right out of their backyard. One minute the dog was there the next it wasn’t. The letter that the thieves left says that dogs are pack animals and need to be with other dogs or their humans at all time and not penned up or left on their own in the yard. But instead of calling animal control to report the dog in the yard or whatever other neglect the thief decided was taking place they took matters into their own hands and stole the family’s Husky. The dog did live in a fully enclosed kennel area with a roof and flow through ventilation.
The family admits that Animal Control has paid them visits in the past but even animal control always gave them a good report after the visits. Yes the dog is kept outside but it had fresh food and water and must have been given proper housing and did receive attention from the family it just happens to not spend its days indoors. While I personally do think the dog should have been inside with the family stealing the dog was not the way to go. Education would have been the better option then stealing the dog.

the family admits to having animal control called a few time right? who is to say this family did not call animal control? they do not know who took the dog or who called right?
dogs should not be left outside i do not understand having a dog and keeping it locked outside alone it just seems like a sad life. and no they did not go about it the right way but no one knows if they did or did not call animal control. did they find the dog?
at least the dog was taken by someone well educated and not some idiot who cant spell or just wants to breed. the way i see it if you really wanted a dog or liked your dog you would keep them indoors.. plus if that is almost the entire kennel(but we do not know for sure as we cant see pics of the rest) that is tiny for a dog! let alone a husky breed who like most dogs has a job to do and wants room to run and grass under its feet.
It’s so hot outside no wonder they took the dog. I don’t know who it was but it had to of been some kids or a neighbor that has dogs. This is just awful. If I found someone trying to take my indoor cat they would never see the light nor day. At least they would get a big pounding from me.
Although it’s not an ideal situation there are far worse cases of abuse happening everywhere. Some dogs love being outside. I’ve had dogs who if given the choice to come inside or stay outside chose to lay on the porch, even if we went inside. According to the article the dog only spent his days outside.
It’s hard to form an opinion without seeing the dog and the situation first hand. I think stealing the dog was inappropriate.
I adopted a German Shepherd years ago that refused to come inside. On the few nights that it got really cold outside I would force him inside. But as soon as he got a chance to go outside he would bolt. I live on 3 acres at the time and he loved to roam. I’m not sure what the “real” situation was here. I feel stealing the dog was inappropriate no matter the cause, unless the dogs life was in imminent danger.
One of our dogs was “stolen” from it’s owner for neglect. But I mean SERIOUS neglect. The owner was a family member and kept her locked up in a far too small cage all day, got her to sleep at night by putting a can of beer in her water dish….you name it, she was in BAD shape. I am glad we did what we did, and would do it again in a heartbeat. Yes, if I had called animal control on this family multiple times, I would have stolen it as well!
It’s a shame that the thieves felt they had to resort to crime to stop what they thought was criminal neglect of the dog.
WOW – that is very interesting. Don’t even know whose side I am on
This will be one of those never-ending age-old debates. I don’t think a dog HAS to live inside a human’s house to be happy. On the other hand, he certainly does need (and deserves) plenty of love, time, attention and opportunity to run and play. It is very sad to see a dog being neglected – or, just as bad – couped up in a tiny little apartment with no where to run (another story entirely). I’m assuming the thieves were the ones calling animal control and were unhappy with the results. But, as the saying goes, two wrongs do not make a right.
Wow! This would be tough.I am an animal lover and would not want to come home and find my pets gone…but if the pets weren’t being cared for I then that is sad as well. What a tough thing! BUT whom ever took them was in the wrong and should not have taken it into their own hands.
I have to weigh in on the side that dogs are pack animals and do not belong in a lone existence. If you don’t want to spend time with your dog, then by a Chia Pet.
This is a truly tough thing. While I would not want to find my pets gone, I would be upset to see that the animals are not being cared for. However, it is not that persons place to be in charge. Tough situation!
In the heat, I believe a dog should be provided a cool place to be especially a Husky. However, I disagree with you that a dog needs to be inside with the family. For centuries Dogs have been outside..if the family interacts with the dog everyday, I dont believe a dog must be inside. Especially, farm dogs who have much to do to keep their interest. (Assumption being that the dog is suited to be outside, a darling little lapdog…no)
What a horrible story. I hope they find and prosecute whoever took the dog. Huskies are working dogs. Workings dogs should be able to handle some heat and being alone in a kennel. In fact it would cause more issues for a working dog to be kept in air conditioning and then put outside to work in the heat. You just cannot do it. Working dogs need to be conditioned, just like other athletes.
We keep our dogs outside during the day. They are working dogs and can handle it. They can also handle being outside alone. I don’t understand the thief thinking that dogs have human emotions. They don’t. Crazy world.
