Cooking for Dogs Frozen Banana Bites

I love frozen treats.
Ice cream. Popsicles. Slushie drinks. I adore the whole lot of them. One of my favourite frozen treats are those little bite sized ice cream bites. I love a frozen treat that I can just pop in my mouth. The only problem?

The dogs get super annoyed that I can’t share them.
The little ice cream bites are coated in chocolate and that is not at all dog friendly. Now, I could just tell them that ice cream treats are for peoples, not puppies and send them to go lay on their mats, but let’s face it: I’m a sucker for those puppy eyes. They’re like my kryptonite. I knew I had to make a tasty frozen treat that we could all enjoy.

Frozen Banana Bites

I decided to try frozen banana bites and let me tell you, they were a smash hit!
To make a snack that would appeal to both me and the pup, I decided to coat ripe bananas with rich peanut butter and tangy yogurt and then top them with toast coconut & carob chips. I love to use carob in my dog-friendly recipes. Sure, it’s not exactly the same as chocolate, but it adds a nice kick to it and it’s dog-friendly. These banana bites were just the right balance between sweet and fruity, plus they were ridiculously easy to make!

Bananas in peanut butter cinnamon yogurt

You need:
2 firm, ripe bananas
2 tablespoons natural peanut butter
3 tablespoons low fat, plain, unsweetened yogurt
½ tsp. vanilla
Pinch of cinnamon
Toppings, like toasted coconut & carob chips

Line a baking sheet or plate with parchment paper.
In a small bowl, stir together yogurt, peanut butter, vanilla and cinnamon. Slice the banana into 3/8” chunks. Dip in peanut butter & yogurt mixture and allow excess coating to drizzle off. Repeat until all bananas are coated. Top with coconut & carob chips, place in the freezer and allow to set over night.

Got extra coating? Pour any excess into ice cube trays and freeze for a treat your dog will love.
Once your banana bites are frozen solid, you can just pop them into your mouth for a sweet frozen treat anytime. We even had a bunch of fun, throwing frozen bananas for the dogs to catch. They loved it. In fact, we all loved these treats. I can’t wait to make them again, maybe with a different topping this time.

  11. I am not really sure what carob is, but this looks really good.

    • Hi Thuy According to wikipedia Carob chips are an edible product, similar to chocolate chips, made from carob. They are used in baking and in trail mixes, often serving as a substitute for chocolate chips. The color is the same as that of dark chocolate, although the taste is somewhat different, with slightly nutty and bitter overtones. Their appearance is nearly identical to a regular chocolate chip. They are made using carob powder, which has the same look, color and texture as baking cocoa.

Carob chips are a safe chocolate alternative for dogs come from trees and are actually in the legume family.

  12. These treats sure do look amazing! My Buddy, my grandchildren and I could eat these – Yumm I tried to comment on Poppy’s Story but it wouldn’t work.

  13. These sound so amazing. I used to share a sweet snack that was made of Semolina, coconut and jaggery with my dog (Probably not that dog friendly for every dog out there. But Amy just wouldn’t stop begging until I had none left in my hands! And she never had any probs gorging on them.)

  14. We use carob on our “gourmet” line of treats…like Barkin’ Biscotti and Pumpkin Paws!

  15. I’ve been surfing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours.
It’s pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all website owners and bloggers made good
content as you did, the web will be much more useful than ever before.
