Ok, I’ll admit it… Sometimes when it comes to blogging I feel like I can be a little slack. I do pretty well most of the time, keeping to schedule, blogging in advance, etc. but there are times when I can drop the ball. Like right now, I usually have an idea of what I want to write about in Men Love Dogs a couple of days before, but I’ve started writing with no idea in mind.
Our weekend was full of training, an assessment, work and friends, and time just seemed to go by so quickly. Though, following up from last week, we have just started at a new obedience school this year with Luna. It was our second week and we decided to go for grading so that we could start at the second level rather than right from the beginning. Did I freak out? Yeah, maybe just a little bit. See, Luna decided she wasn’t interested in my treats, Devon (a type of luncheon meat) just wasn’t that appealing anymore and the treats that the assessor had seemed a lot tastier and smelt better.
Great! We are just about to be assessed and she doesn’t want my food. Thankfully, the assessors are actually there to help you and we scored a free bag of treats! Phew! There was probably about 20 dogs going for the assessment that day, and they give you time to practice and go over the things that you need to do, they also helped with tips on things we weren’t sure of.
The treats, I might mention, were ones that the training school makes each week, Parmesan, liver and all sorts of other yummy things. I had a bit of a chat to one of the assessors and she suggested that Devon may be good for at home, but at training, where there are plenty of things to distract her, we should try something else, something she will want to work for. That sentiment really showed because once we had the different treats Luna was on fire! It’s times like these I’m really glad I have a dog obsessed with food.
She responded to her name, sat, dropped, walked with a loose leash (without pulling, which amazed me considering she loves to sniff) and recalled with ease. She had passed with flying colors, strutting her stuff like nobodies business. At that moment, I couldn’t have been prouder of her. So what did I learn in this? That, I don’t need to freak out, because I’m only making myself nervous, Luna is a lot calmer than I am in these situations, I need to make sure she has something that will keep her motivated and sometimes, I guess, all it takes is the right treats…

Boots not so much our puppy, he has grown so much and kinda of looks like a cow dog now but will not take new treats. He has become very picky and pretty much demands his same treats. Just like a kid lol
