The New Jersey State SPCA Police is looking for anyone who purchased puppies from Pound Puppy Protection Rescue of New Jersey at PetSmart on Route 1 in North Brunswick on or about Oct. 31.
The NJSPCA Police received 3 separate complaints from families whose pups tested positive for canine parvovirus. Two of the puppies died and a third recovered after extensive treatment. The NJSPCA Police issued 5 animal cruelty charges against the owner of Pound Puppy Protection Rescue of New Jersey, Ms. Christine Yurgel, with potential fines of $5,000 and/or jail time at the discretion of the Municipal Judge. Her first appearance in North Brunswick Municipal Court is schedule for 12/21/11.
The rescue group received a $350 adoption fee for each of 6 dogs adopted. The NJSPCA is looking to contact at least 3 additional families who may have adopted sick puppies that day. The rescue group’s records were lacking data on the sales so additional sick puppies locations are unknown.
It also seems that this is not the first time Pound Puppy Protection has brought in sick puppies for sale from other areas. If you would like to read about her track record http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/NotReallyRescues/message/223. From reading this I think that this lady while her heart might have been in the right place a some point her head was not doing the right thing by ensuring these puppies were receiving proper vet treatment before being sold. Because at $350 and she wasn’t paying the medical expenses on the sick dogs she was pocketing quite a bit of money.
