Dieting with my Dog: One busy life, two full figures and unconditional love

Dieting with my Dog: One busy life, two full figures and unconditional love
by Peggy Frezon
(Veloce Publishing. October 15, 2011)

The honest and often humorous story of an overweight woman and her chubby spaniel, struggling to lose weight and get fit together. When the vet warned Peggy that her dog Kelly’s excess weight put the dog at increased risk of diabetes, bone and joint problems, and heart disease, Peggy realized that she’d heard those words before…from her own doctor. “I realized that my unhealthy lifestyle was affecting my dog. I ate junk food, she ate junk food. I didn’t exercise, she didn’t exercise.” She vowed that she and her pooch would get in shape together.

The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention estimates that more than half of U.S. dogs and cats are overweight or obese, and recent studies indicate a link between overweight people and overweight pets. Not only did Peggy help Kelly slim down, but Kelly also provided the motivation and encouragement Peggy needed to stay on a diet and get active. Peggy lost 41 lbs and Kelly lost 6 lbs (15% of her body weight), proving that a pet is good for your health!

Kelly is a cocker spaniel/long haired dachshund mix who loves her pink bunny toy and barking at squirrels. She joined the Frezon family when she was about one year old, after posing for a Petfinder picture in such a way that no human could resist. She is prone to midnight zoomies and bad hair days.

  1. My dog and I both applaud the lady and the dog loosing weight together. I tried it with my cat. Didn’t work. The cat attacked me in the night and demanded more food. I caved. Anything for more sleep. The dog on the other hand, loves to walk, run, jog and diet. I am doing better.
