Man Saved from Drowning By Curious Puppy / Pet Bloggers Blog Hop

from left to right: Raikes, Wilson the dog, and Absalom

Mike Raikes who has been training for a Triathalon said he was scared for his life after being caught in a rip tide close to Mumbles lighthouse near Swansea, that was until a puppy belonging to one of the lifeboat team members alerted his owner to someone out in the water. That puppy belonged to Richard Absalom and the puppy’s name is Wilson. Wilson happens to not be too keen about going near the water and so the lifeboat crew member knew something was going on out in the water. Its a good thing that Wilson alerted him to the very distressed Raikes and a rescue could be mounted to get him.

The swimmer had been caught up in a strong current between the beach and an island near the lighthouse in Swansea and according to experts when the tide starts going out you get a massive rip current in the area. The whole of the bay is trying to empty through a very narrow channel. At first Raikes didn’t notice he was drifting sideways out into open water but he was quickly swept into a strong current and knew he was in trouble.

Raikes who didn’t know it at the time says he owes his life to the puppy and that he is so grateful that the puppy saw him and made sure his owner knew there was a problem.

Raikes says this is not the first time he was saved by a dog. Several years ago he was going for a walk in the Black Mountains on a beautiful winter day when the weather quickly changed and he was lost in a whiteout. He says a sheepdog was out nearby and found him stuck in the whiteout and led him out of the mountains and to safety.

  10. What are the odds of being saved by dogs twice. I wonder if he’s considered getting a dog of his own, since he apparently gets into trouble on his own.
