Faloma, 10, and Maleina Luhk, 9, disappeared May 25, after they left their grandparents house to walk to the bus stop in As Teo Village in Saipan a US Commonwealth in the Pacific Ocean. The girls never made it onto the school bus that morning. The search has included Saipan law enforcement, FBI agents, military aircraft and volunteers. Saipan police have classified the investigation as a missing person case, but the FBI now calls the case an abduction investigation.
Pohaku a black Labrador Search and Rescue Dog from Hawaii joined the search for the two missing Saipan sisters yesterday in the hope of making progress on an investigation that has offered few clues to authorities trying to find the girls even though weeks have gone by. Pohaku is out conducting searches with two FBI agents, two Saipan police officers, and two handlers,” FBI spokesman Tom Simon said yesterday.
Pohaku and his two handlers will stay on the island for an until the girls are found or all leads dry up and there is no where else to search for the sisters. If Pohaku discovers anything significant, the FBI will establish a crime scene and deploy an evidence response team to search the area more thoroughly. Elbert Quitugua, the girls’ grandfather, believes a kidnapper must have planned the abduction because it would have been extremely difficult to snatch the girls without being seen by a neighbor, motorist, or child at the bus stop when the bus stop is only 100 yards from his front door it was a busy time of day children going to school and adults on their way to work.
