Looking Back on the Past Year

Looking back on the past year my Blog has already far exceeded even a 5 year plan I could have envisioned for it when I started it in February. My blog wasn’t ever really meant to be for the public necessarily. I had planned on doing a few Review and Giveaway events and then just post every so often and join blog hops to interact with other bloggers. Of course we all strive to have a blog to be proud of and that people take notice of but this blog was for me so if a few Bloggers sent me an award that was good enough for me.

In April I had planned from day one to have a month of Giveaways in celebration of Davinia’s 6th Birthday. To most of you her birthday probably just seems like an excuse to have a celebration but it was literally a celebration that she was alive. To read her story please visit this post: http://twolittlecavaliers.blogspot.com/2010/06/davinias-story-6-months-to-day.html. There has been no follow up post to this one even though my full intention is to tell Davinia’s entire story from the moment she was attacked through her entire recovery process. I even have the posts saved but have been asked not to go public with all the details yet but I will share her story someday. The people responsible are still claiming they are not responsible so things have escalated.

Back to our blog. It was at the very beginning of April that I found out I would be going to BlogPaws. I really didn’t even know there was a Pet Blogging Community at that point but I had heard about other blogging events and figured I love pets so why not go to an event that focused on Animals in Social Media.

I literally found out a week before the conference started thanks to my very special sponsor Pedigree for choosing my two month old blog to send to a conference (actually they chose us not once but twice). Being at the conference was the first time since Davinia was attacked that I was away from her for more then a few hours at a time. I probably looked like a deer in headlights to the people I was meeting and I honestly remember very little of the conference. Clearly some of the lessons stuck as my blog has been growing ever since but I don’t remember too many details.

I do know that watching the friendships blossom at BlogPaws that I felt there needed to be a Pet Blogger specific Blog Hop so that people could stay connected between events and so I contacted Neil from Life With Dogs (who has since become my blogging mentor.) I had visited his blog as he was also chosen as a Pedigree Blogger and noticed he seemed to have quite a few followers so I figured he would be someone to connect with if I wanted to do it. I knew I also needed a cat blogger and the only one I could remember was Baby Patches Blog Confessions of the Plume since she was a speaker at BlogPaws. They both agreed to co-Host and the Pet Bloggers Blog Hop was born.

Then one day I decided that I would just go with the momentum and work my blog. I started posting daily ok at least 5 days a week. I realized people were visiting so that became 6 days a week which slowly turned to twice a day and I am now up to about 3 posts 5 days a weeks plus the blog hop on the weekends.

I now spend hours a day interacting with everyone from PR companies to find Reviews and Giveaways to other Bloggers as well as finding stories to share with all of you. Plus the last month I have spent a lot of time looking forward to the New Year and becoming even bigger and better. I have learned so much this year and this little blog has really blossomed into something I am extremely proud of. Not only that but I have learned so much from this journey about Social Media in general.

Not only to I owe my blogs successes this year to all of my sponsors from those who allowed me to hold giveaways for items large and small. I owe my success most of all to you my readers because without you everything I post would just hang somewhere in cyberspace collecting dust. I do this for you and I value your opinions, ideas, and comments.

I know 2011 is going to be even bigger and better with all of the events we have planned for you.

Here’s to an amazing year ahead,
Felissa, Davinia, & Indiana
